Car hire websites are judged on one thing before anything else: whether the price on screen is the price at the desk. Everything else in the design is downstream of that.

The reason is that this is a sector where travellers have been caught out before, so they arrive already checking. A quoted daily rate that grows at pickup — excess waiver, second driver, fuel policy, out-of-hours fee — does not just cost that booking. It produces the review that costs the next thirty.

Which makes four questions worth answering on the page rather than in the terms and conditions:
