Discovery Call
💡 We apply this in: initial marketing consultancy →What is a discovery call?
A discovery call is the first structured conversation between a potential client and a service provider. It is not a sales pitch: its purpose is to understand the client's problem, context, goals and constraints, and to decide together whether working together makes sense.
Structure of an effective call
- Opening (2–3 min): break the ice, set the agenda and the time available.
- Diagnosis (15–20 min): open questions about the business, current challenges, past attempts and concrete goals. The provider listens more than it talks.
- Technical context (5–10 min): current tools, rough budget, timing and who makes the decisions.
- Alignment (5 min): summarise what you understood and agree next steps.
Useful questions by sector
- Tourism and hospitality: what share of bookings comes through your own channels rather than OTAs? What is your average occupancy in low season?
- Property: how many leads do you get a month, and how many become viewings?
- E-commerce: what are your current conversion rate and average order value?
- Professional services: have you worked with a digital agency before, and what worked or did not?
A quality filter, in both directions
Not every prospect is a good client. The call exposes warning signs — unrealistic budgets, mismatched expectations, sectors where you cannot add value. Saying "no" early saves resources and protects your reputation.
In a well-built lead generation process, the discovery call is where marketing hands over to sales. When SEO content has already informed and pre-qualified the lead, the call is shorter, more productive and closes more often. Book a call with us.
